Museums, galleries and music
Lovers of art and culture will feel equally at home as they enjoy staying in the heart of London's museum district – the world famous Victoria & Albert Museum is barely five minutes on foot, and the Royal Albert Hall only a few blocks beyond. The Natural History Museum and the Science Museum are also within easy strolling distance, while Britain's leading horticultural event, The Chelsea Flower Show, is held nearby.
Discover London on foot
Because the Egerton is so centrally located we’ve partnered with Context Travel to offer over 30 brilliant walking tours. Their collection of architects, historians and art specialists will introduce you to some of the most fascinating features of London with everything from guided museum tours to walks through the city’s most ancient nooks and crannies.
London's best shopping
The Egerton's location is paradise for shoppers - with Knightsbridge, Harrods and Harvey Nichols only a short distance away. The hotel is on the doorstep of one of London’s most popular shopping destinations, while a short distance to the south you’ll find the long rows of glittering shops along Brompton Road, Sloane Street, and the King's Road.
To the north-west lies the Westfield shopping centre with over 265 retailers from luxury designers to high street labels. Kensington Church Street offers the widest selection of art and antiques in London, with over 60 dealers, while slightly further afield you can search for bargains along the Portobello Road in Notting Hill.
The best of London’s nightlife within easy reach
In the evening you are spoilt for choice. Shaftesbury Avenue, Piccadilly Circus and Leicester Square, at the heart of London’s theatre district, surrounded by the lively bars and cosmopolitan restaurants of Soho, are just minutes away in a taxi. We will be more than happy to organise theatre tickets for you. Take a look at our West End Theatre Guide and let us know if you'd like us to book tickets on your behalf.
For fine dining there’s a wealth of excellent restaurants nearby, many with Michelin stars. Check out our London Restaurant Guide for details on our personal favourites.
Close to London’s major attractions
Trafalgar Square, home of the National Gallery and the National Portrait Gallery, is only a few minutes away by cab. From the square you enter Whitehall, leading to the Houses of Parliament, Downing Street, the Cenotaph, Big Ben, the London Eye and Westminster Abbey.
A host of fascinating attractions on the doorstep
The area around the Egerton House Hotel is studded with fascinating, but slightly lesser known attractions. These include Apsley House (the magnificent former home of the Duke of Wellington), Brompton Oratory (the famous Roman Catholic church), Oscar Wilde’s house (in Tite Street, Chelsea), the home of the famous 19th century historian Thomas Carlyle (in Cheyne Walk, Chelsea) and Chelsea Harbour with its popular Design Centre, restaurants and marina.
