A Diamond Jubilee celebration at the V&A

2012 is shaping up to be a very exciting year in London, with Queen Elizabeth II's Diamond Jubilee in June and the Olympics in August. The Queen's coronation took place on 2 June 1952 and she is only the 2nd British Monarch to celebrate a Diamond Jubilee, Queen Victoria being the first in 1897.

The Victoria and Albert is the world's greatest museum of art and design, with collections unrivalled in their scope and diversity. To celebrate the past 60 yeasrs of Her Majesty's reign there will be a dedicated exhibition of portraits taken by Cecil Beaton. These photographs depict the Queen in her roles as princess, monarch and mother and the exhibition will explore the relationship between the two as well as some of Beaton's diaries and letters. Featuring nearly 100 portraits, the exhibition will show elegant and highly-staged photographs alongside informal moments of family time at home.

The exhibition will be on display on Room 48 of The Porter Gallery from 8th February until 22nd April 2012.

Enchanted Palace

If walls could talk what tales would they tell? Kensington Palace, only a few minutes from the Egerton House Hotel, has more than its fair share of stories, secrets and scandals – and all will be revealed in the fascinating “Enchanted Palace” exhibition.

Visitors are invited to use their eyes and ears to find clues to the lives of elusive residents, including seven princesses for who the palace was once home. The rebellious princess who ran from an arranged marriage into the arms of love. Sad queens who bore the pain and grief of lost babies. The young heir to the throne who escaped the controlling grasp of her overprotective mother. And the People’s Princess, Diana – whose tragic tale never ceases to fascinate.

The amazing show also features a series of stunning installations where contemporary fashion collides with the Royal Ceremonial Dress Collection - fashioned by world famous designers including Vivienne Westwood, William Tempest, Stephen Jones, Boudicca, Aminaka Wilmont and Echo Morgan.

Other attractions include a display of Diana’s gowns , the bedroom in which Victoria received the news that she was now Queen, the beautiful “Sunken Garden”, and a host of children’s activity trails.
