2012 is shaping up to be a very exciting year in London, with Queen Elizabeth II's Diamond Jubilee in June and the Olympics in August. The Queen's coronation took place on 2 June 1952 and she is only the 2nd British Monarch to celebrate a Diamond Jubilee, Queen Victoria being the first in 1897.
The Victoria and Albert is the world's greatest museum of art and design, with collections unrivalled in their scope and diversity. To celebrate the past 60 years of Her Majesty's reign there will be a dedicated exhibition of portraits taken by Cecil Beaton. These photographs depict the Queen in her roles as princess, monarch and mother and the exhibition will explore the relationship between the two as well as some of Beaton's diaries and letters. Featuring nearly 100 portraits, the exhibition will show elegant and highly-staged photographs alongside informal moments of family time at home.
The exhibition will be on display on Room 48 of The Porter Gallery from 8th February until 22nd April 2012.
