Sport takes centre stage in the capital this weekend, with the opening day of the new Premier League season seeing two London clubs looking to use their home advantage to pick up three points.
Champions Chelsea take on newly-promoted West Bromwich Albion at Stamford Bridge in a game that Chelsea coach Carlo Ancelotti will probably expect to result in a relatively easy victory for his side.
Tottenham Hotspur have an altogether tougher match at White Hart Lane, as they come up against big-spending Manchester City, who will be targeting league success after another busy summer in the transfer market, in which they have snapped up Yaya Toure from Barcelona and David Silva from Valencia.
And those who favour track and field events over the beautiful game are not left out, as Crystal Palace in south London will be hosting the Aviva London Grand Prix on August 13th and 14th.
Champion sprinter Usain Bolt will not be running at the meeting this year, but those taking advantage of the Get More From Your Stay package at luxury London hotel the Egerton House Hotel who opt to go along will be able to see some Great British athletes of the past don their spikes again and go head-to-head in a special relay race.
Roger Black, Jason Gardner, John Regis and Ewan Thomas - who all have Olympic medals to their name - will be captaining the four teams taking part in the 4x100m challenge.
If that fails to appeal, then the unusual setting of Battersea Power Station will be hosting a sport of the more extreme variety when the Red Bull X-Fighters motocross competition takes place on August 14th.
This sees daredevil riders pit their wits against a specially-designed freestyle motocross course in a bid to pull off the best tricks and impress the judges.
But it's not just sport on the agenda in the capital this weekend, with the ongoing Camden Crawl seeing comedian Neil Cole performing his Neil by Mouth routine at the Camden Head.
This is his first full-length show and it was greeted with praise when it debuted in Glasgow earlier in the year, with, London Town noting the Scotsman described it as "enjoyably bawdy, with impressive imaginative leaps".
Elsewhere, August 14th marks the opening night of the Merry Wives of Windsor, which features many characters from Henry IV parts one and two and is back at the theatre following a successful run in 2008.
It has been hailed as a success by critics, with the Times describing it as "a wonderfully warming comedy, stuffed to bursting with belly laughs".
