Event: Raphael's Cartoons and Tapestries for the Sistine Chapel
Date September 8th 2010 until October 17th 2010
The work of Italian painter Raphael is to be celebrated at the Victoria and Albert Museum, which will be staging a special exhibition of some of his pieces next month.
From September 8th until October 17th, the venue will enable visitors to view four of his tapestries for the Sistine Chapel, which will be shown for the first time alongside the full-size designs for them that have been on display at the museum since 1865.
Tickets for the display, which has not been seen before in the UK, are free but must be booked.
Made nearly 500 years ago, these artworks have stood the test of time and remain popular, sometimes compared to Michelangelo's Sistine Chapel Ceiling as masterpieces.
The new exhibition is a result of a collaboration between the Vatican Museums and the Victoria and Albert Museum - which seeks to provide displays, collections and expertise as resources for learning, creativity and enjoyment by audiences in the UK and beyond.
It noted that the tapestry display will coincide with the visit to London of Pope Benedict XVI.
A convenient place to stay nearby to the exhibition is luxury London hotel the Egerton House hotel.
Those staying there may want to book the Get More From Your Stay package, which enables them to enjoy afternoon tea for two on one day of their stay, or alternatively opt for a bottle of Veuve Clicquot to be placed in their room on arrival.
