What's hot in London this weekend?

Theatre lovers are in for a treat with a double helping of Shakespeare classics, while art fans can also enjoy a special exhibition as well.

The works of William Shakespeare have reached all corners of the globe, with theatre enthusiasts across the world taken in by the drama of King Lear and the hope of Romeo and Juliet.

Fans of Shakespeare's writing can see one of his most famous stories at the unique and wonderful Shakespeare's Globe.

Built by Sam Wanamaker, the theatre is dedicated to exploring the playwright's works and the playhouse for which he wrote.

This weekend, fans can see the story of Henry VIII and the battle for the Tudor Court.

Wolsey -the king's first minister – and Queen Catherine are two of the most famous characters ever created by Shakespeare and their greed brings great tragedy and ruin to all those close to them.

If one Shakespeare tale is not enough, theatre lovers can enjoy another at the Unicorn Theatre.

The Tempest is another of the playwright's stories which has a special place in people's hearts.

It follows Prospero, his daughter Miranda and the people who have betrayed them in a tale of romance, comedy and magic.

For parents, this could be a great way to introduce their children to the joys of the theatre and the brilliance of Shakespeare.

Those staying for a long weekend in the capital can take part in a very special birthday celebration.

Lambeth Palace, once described by James I as a 'monument of fame' will hold a new exhibition revealing some of the many treasures it houses behind closed doors.

That means history lovers can see items such as the MacDurnan Gospels, the Lambeth Bible, books owned and used by various kings and queens throughout the ages and a rare edition of the Babylonian Talmud.

As ever, there is something for art lovers to enjoy this weekend.

One of the highlights is the National Portrait Gallery's Alex Katz paints Anna Wintour exhibition.

The artist has captured editor in chief of American Vogue Anna Wintour on canvas without her signature sunglasses against a yellow background.

In addition, there will be several other of Katz' paintings on display, including a portrait of New York intelligentsia at a cocktail party called One Flight Up.

Another event art fans will want to take in is the very special exhibition happening at the Tate Modern.

No Soul for Sale – A Festival of Independents will see more than 70 international collectives from Rio to Shanghai come together in the gallery's Turbine Hall and bring it to life with performances, art, music and film.

A spontaneous celebration of the independent forces which animate contemporary art, the aim of the event is to celebrate the work of those who strive to invent new strategies for the distribution of information.

It all makes for a packed schedule and visitors can make sure they have enough energy to enjoy everything by relaxing in a suite at the luxury London hotel the Egerton House Hotel at the end of each day.

Guests who take advantage of the 3 Nights for the Price of 2 promotion can stay for an extra night at no extra charge.
