Objects of Luxury: French porcelain of the 18th century at V&A Museum

Event: Objects of Luxury: French porcelain of the 18th century
Date: September - March 2010

The Victoria and Albert Museum will showcase some magnificent examples of 18th century French porcelain from the beginning of next month in an exhibition which is likely to be popular with art fans and historians alike.

Known as white gold at the time, porcelain was one of the biggest discoveries of the time and was immensely popular with French high society, which had an insatiable appetite for luxury goods.

France was home to some of the world's best factories, however, one stood above all others - the Royal Manufacture at Sevres.

The best alchemists, designers and artists were drawn to Sevres thanks to the protection offered by Louis XV and the patronage of his mistress, Madame Pompadour.

This led to the Parisian suburb becoming home to the finest porcelain in the world, with the objects unrivalled in terms of decoration, design and quality.

Unrivalled class and quality is something which visitors to the exhibition can experience for themselves at the luxury London hotel Egerton House, which is less than five minutes away.

With the Get More From Your Stay package, guests are given a choice from a bottle of Veuve Cliquot, a romantic turndown, a £50 shopping voucher for Harrods, a late check out until 18:00 GMT and traditional afternoon tea for two.
