Corot to Monet at the National Gallery

Event: Corot to Monet - A Fresh Look at Landscape from the Collection
Date: July 8th until September 20th

Without the long tradition of painting and sketching outdoors which existed before it, the Impressionist movement of artistic thought may not have had the influence or longevity which it did.

This school of thought owes a lot to those who laid the foundations for them to develop and it is these early pioneers who will be the focus of the National Gallery’s Corot to Monet – A Fresh Look at Landscape from the Collection exhibition.

Through works from the likes of Jean-Baptiste-Camille Corot and Pierre Henri Valenciennes, the showcase will chart the growth of open-air landscape painting up to 1874, when the first Impressionist exhibition took place.

Simon Denis and others who gathered in 18th-and-19th-century Rome will have their paintings shown, while there will also be a particular focus on members of the Barbizon School, such as Narcisse-Virgilio Diaz de la Pena and Theodore Rousseau.

Other highlights include Monet’s The Beach at Trouville masterpiece and Richard Parkes Bonington’s La Ferte.

Visitors to the exhibition can make the whole weekend break a classic by booking a stay at the luxury London hotel Egerton House and taking advantage of the Get More From Your Stay package.

Guests can choose from traditional afternoon tea for two, a bottle of Veuve Clicquot, a romantic turndown or £50 worth of Harrods shopping vouchers.
