The Great British Duck Race

Event: The Great British Duck Race
Date: August 31st 2008

One of the greatest madcap events of the British summer, the Great British Duck Race is due to take place once again this August.

And this year, "duck day" on August 31st has much to live up to, having smashed the Singapore-held World Record in 2007 by racing 165,000 yellow plastic ducks down the River Thames and raising more than £100,000 for charity.

In 2008, organisers hope to race 250,000 yellow ducks from Moseley Lock, near Hampton Court Palace, in order to prove that "Great Britain does it better".

Guests staying at Red Carnation Hotels in London will have another great reason to attend the event besides the record attempt, as this year Red Carnation is supporting its chosen charity Wooden Spoon in the race.

Those attending the race from nearby luxury London hotel the Egerton can donate to the charity by visiting the the Great British Duck Race website or Red Carnation Hotels' own page.

Participants in the race can adopt a duck for £2 - including their donation to charity - and an additional donation of £3 per duck is recommended which goes directly to Wooden Spoon, with the winning duck receiving a prize of £10,000.
