Cy Twombly: Cycles and Seasons

Guests residing at luxury London hotel the Egerton with an interest in painting and sculptures may wish to visit the Tate Modern later this year.

From June 19th until September 14th 2008, the exhibition Cy Twombly: Cycles and Seasons will be shown at the gallery, in a move that coincides with Cy Twombly's 80th anniversary.

Cy Twombly is an American abstract expressionist painter, well known for large scale, free-scribbled paintings created in a calligraphic, graffiti style.

Usually working in the colours of grey and off-white, Twombly's unorthodox material has been exhibited around the world.

Cycles and Seasons will be Twombly's first major retrospective in the UK for two decades and the exhibition will feature paintings, drawings and sculpture from all stages of the artist's career.

Focusing on key cycles of related works some of the artist's series of paintings, the display will also include rooms devoted to Twombly's drawings and sculpture as well.

Born in the US in 1928 Twombly was a graduate of Black Mountain College, Carolina having also studied in Boston and New York.

The Tate Modern, home of international, modern and contemporary art, is currently hosting the DuChamp, Manray and Picabia exhibition until May 26th.
